Dr. Melville Wohlgemuth was invited by National Academy of Sciences Vice President Diane Griffin to present the 14th annual Seymour Benzer/Sydney Brenner Lecture in 2024.

This lecture is planned as part of the Distinctive Voices public lecture series at the Beckman Center in Irvine, CA, scheduled on weekday evenings, two to three times each month.  The series covers a broad range of topics in science, technology and medicine, and the program’s goals include bringing current issues in these areas to a broad, public audience.

In addition to hosting an inquisitive and engaged audience at the Center, NAS will reach a virtual audience by recording the presentation and making it available on their website and Distinctive Voices YouTube Channel.

The nominating committee and NAS members who serve on the Committee for Scientific Programs which oversees the Distinctive Voices lecture series bestowed this honor upon viewing Dr. Wohlgemuth's lecture How Senses Shape Perception from the 2023 US Frontiers of Science Symposium.

Congratulations, Dr. Wohlgemuth!
