Welcome to the Department of Neuroscience
Our graduates become successful scientists in academia, the pharmaceutical and health care industries, industries using medically or biologically related technologies, Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) disciplines, STEM education, science communication, public policy, journalism, or patent law.
Each major encourages students to engage in a variety of research activities, receiving real-world research experience in their respective lab sciences.
We provide extensive support to our undergraduate students through a range of major advising and peer mentorship.
Schedule a Tour!
If you are interested in majoring in “Neuroscience” or “Neuroscience and Cognitive Science”, and would like to learn more about each program and the department, we are happy to arrange a visit!

Neuroscience
Students who study Neuroscience (NSCI) gain in-depth knowledge of how neural circuits function from a molecular, cellular, and systems perspective and how disease processes compromise their performance. The major prepares students for graduate or medical school and can lead to careers in academia, medicine, pharmaceutical, biotech, biomedical or other industries, science education, science communication, public policy, journalism, patent law and more!

Neuroscience & Cognitive Science
The Department of Neuroscience and the Program in Cognitive Science jointly offer a B.S. in Neuroscience & Cognitive Science (NSCS), which also is available at |AZonline|. NSCS students gain a strong overview covering several fields from neuroscience to cognitive science, including psychology, philosophy, and even linguistics. The major prepares students for graduate or professional school, careers in health care industries, high school or middle school science education, or disciplines that increasingly interact with the Science, Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) disciplines.
