Neuroscience Undergraduate Studies
Modern Neuroscience is the interdisciplinary study of the nervous system, from the level of individual genes and proteins to mechanisms that govern complex behaviors. Underpinned by cutting-edge technologies, unprecedented insights are expected to unravel the mechanisms underlying cognition, behavior, emotion, thought, and awareness, and pave the way for applications that will impact healthcare, education, and law and society.
NEUROSCIENCE
Undergraduate Studies in Neuroscience
The Department of Neuroscience offers a minor and a major (B.S.) in Neuroscience (NSCI). The NSCI major is tailored to students desiring contemporary in-depth knowledge of how neural circuits function from a molecular, cellular, and systems perspective and how disease processes compromise their performance. Students will also gain experience in laboratory research, with the requirement of at least one semester of research experience.
The major prepares students for advanced training in Graduate or Medical School, research careers in pharmaceutical, biotech, biomedical or other industries, or for other science-related careers such as science education, science communication, public policy, journalism, or patent law.
NEUROSCIENCE & COGNITIVE SCIENCE
Undergraduate Studies in Neuroscience & Cognitive Science
The Department of Neuroscience and the Program in Cognitive Science jointly offer a B.S. in Neuroscience & Cognitive Science (NSCS) that also is available at |AZonline|. The NSCS major is tailored to students seeking a strong overview covering several fields from neuroscience to cognitive science, including psychology, philosophy, and even linguistics.
The major prepares students for graduate or professional school, positions in the pharmaceutical and health care industries, to be a high school or middle school science teacher, or to enter other disciplines that increasingly interact with the Science, Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) disciplines.
Prospective Students
Prospective undergraduate students who plan to attend the University of Arizona may request a visit to the Department of Neuroscience. This form is only for new incoming students. Current students email our |Advisors| to learn more.
Undergraduate Research Opportunities
Neuroscience (NSCI) students are highly encouraged to get involved with research early on! By providing undergraduates with many opportunities to participate, through credit courses, paid positions, and a wide range of research areas, there is something for everyone!
