Dr. Ulises Ricoy receives National Award of Excellence in Public Service

Congratulations to Ulises for being nominated and awarded with the National Award of Excellence in Public Service. The award is given through the National Hispanic Science Network (NHSN) and is presented to an individual whose work in public service has promoted the development of Hispanic researchers in substance abuse and research on Hispanic drug abuse. The NHSN Award recognition is for broadening access to underserved populations via low cost approaches in Neuroscience. The nomination includes a description of the nominee’s public service track work and how it has contributed to furthering the development of Hispanic researchers in substance abuse and research on Hispanic drug abuse.

Ulises said, “This award is special to me because my doctoral mentor, Dr. Joe L. Martinez, Jr., was one of the founders of this organization when I was an early graduate student. There is a retrospective on Dr. Martinez’ life in science that was published on October 16, 2020,"
